020 / Na-Ma
Contemporary cities, while planning their development for the future, naturally regard architecture and the buildings that architecture produces as tools to explore which are the spaces that best amplify urban imaginations. Urban planning reflects political ideas and architecture spatializes them. Together, they construct a vision of society.
The new Na-Ma has the potential to become acase study that represents the condition that public buildings achieve when they serve as a reference point in the city beyond the specific program they contain. In this sense, the project proposes Na-Ma as an infrastructure at the scale of the city, defined by an initial decision to open up and sponge the existing structure. This sponging provides new spaces filled with air and light to connect with the city and the future program, while adapting the structure to transform it into a support that will hold the new project.
Thus, the building is perceived and appropriated at the scale of the city as an inviting spatial structure, with varying gradients of programs that enable different users to inhabit it simultaneously, as an extension of the best characteristics and values of urban life.
